Pro tip: If you order the pour over ($12) or buying coffee beans, you can order from the short line inside and can still order everything else. That said, reg line moved quickly for us and pastries were awesome. Def worth the wait. Everyone working that left side of the house was on top of their game and clearly doing their hardest. 2 star review is bc after we had our coffee and pastries, we went over to do a tasting to buy beans. The lady that does the pour overs is so pretentious and intentionally slow. With equipment to do at least 3 pour overs at once clearly visible, she only does it one at a time. Then stares into space, and if you ask her a question during this time, she is visible annoyed and says she's very busy. We waited at least 15 mins for her to make more Kona espresso to taste, which she only made 3 cups of coffee but sooo incredibly busy. The whole time there a zero line but since there were 3 sets of people waiting for same sample there's an instant line after she finally made it. Left side of the house, 5 stars across the board. Right side, zero stars. They need to drop the bad attitude. If you can't handle more than 1 pour over at a time, you shouldn't be working at a coffee shop.
Absolutely worth the hype and the waiting time. If you’re visiting on weekday, certainly pre-order to skip the line as they seemed to be busy at all hours. The line moved relatively quickly even on weekend though, so don’t let it hinder you from trying. We got their iconic Black Sesame Kouign Amann and loved it too much. Impeccably flaky and buttery pastry base with flawless caramelized bottom. The black sesame paste also came in just right dose and sweetness. I wasn’t a fan of black sesame but I would rave over this pastry!! We did have their Pineapple Almond Croissant, which was decent but if you had to prioritize, doubtlessly go for kouign amann. The Chocolate Chip cookie was okay to skip IMHO. We came back again another day for their pistachio and chocolate ones and they were just as mindblowing! If you loved milk coffee, I would recommend their latte as the cold brew could be tad acidic even with added milk. I got their Cold Brew with soy milk first time then Vanilla Latte the second time, and certainly loved the latter better.
Kona Coffee Purveyors is definitely worth trying at least once, especially if you are visiting Waikiki and want the full Kona coffee experience. I waited about 32 minutes in line around 8:30 a.m. on a Friday, so be prepared for a crowd. I ordered the Nitro Kona, Black Sesame Croissant, Cinnamon Roll, and Mango Pudding, and honestly, all of it was really good. The Nitro Kona was smooth and excellent, although it is hard for me to move away from nitro coffee in general because I already enjoy that style so much. I also picked up a 12 oz bag of coffee beans for around $60 as a souvenir, which felt like part of the overall experience. Overall, I am glad I went and can definitely see why it is popular. It feels more like a high end tourist attraction and coffee experience rather than just a quick coffee stop. The quality was there, but I am not completely sold on waiting that long again. Still, it is a solid spot to check out at least once if you are in Hawaii.
Our absolute favorite coffee shop in Honolulu—we came here every single day of our trip! The 100% Kona coffee is absolutely outstanding. You can actually sample different coffee beans on the right side of the counter, which is separate from the main waiting line! We always came in the afternoon when it was much less crowded. Definitely avoid the morning if you're in a rush. The line gets so long it stretches all the way out into the mall! The Pastries are incredibly good. The Pineapple Coconut Almond Croissant is fresh, crispy, and packed with a beautiful pineapple aroma. The Lilikoi Bostock is also fantastic. Highly recommend this café!
Kona Coffee Fact: Kona coffee is a premium, high-end Arabica coffee grown exclusively on a small 30-mile-long, 2-mile-wide strip of volcanic slopes in the Kona districts of Hawaii's Big Island. Known for its smooth, light, and mildly acidic flavor profile with notes of chocolate and nuts, it is highly prized and regulated by the state to combat food fraud. True Kona coffee is only grown on the slopes of Hualālai and Mauna Loa volcanoes. We had been told to check out Kona Coffee Purveyors at International Marketplace by a good handful of Honolulu friends and I'm glad I heeded their advice. The best coffee on our trip was had here and I wish I had more time to grab another cuppa! I ordered a black sesame latte for myself, shared an affogato, and tried a Konawaena pour over (Kiwae honey, roasted macadamia, and milk chocolate) pourover. The latte was sip after sip of balanced coffee with a hint of black sesame. The pour over is where you truly get the caffeine. As for the affogato, easily the best affogato had on the trip (and I have plenty~). I highly recommend Kona Coffee Purveyors if you're in the Waikiki area. The ambiance is nice and the staff is friendly!
