Here’s a good reason to swing by Kapolei after work. Don Don Donki is launching a weekly $9.99 plate special today, Wednesday, Nov. 4, Aloha State Daily reported in its Budget Bites series. The deal runs every Wednesday in November, including the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
The deal
- What: Chicken tenders plate with rice, cabbage salad and a secret sauce
- Price: $9.99
- When: Wednesdays starting at 3 p.m., until sold out, through November (Nov. 4, 11, 18 and 25)
- Limit: Five plates per person; a limited number are made each week
- Where: The okazuya/hot foods station at Don Don Donki, 500 Kamokila Blvd., Kapolei
- Store hours: Open daily, 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.
- Phone: 808-909-9700
How big is it?
Big. Delicatessen department manager Kota Kawahara told Aloha State Daily the tenders are made from chicken breast in a special coating mix, and that after frying there’s about a pound of chicken on each plate. The tenders plate is only sold at the Kapolei store, he said.
That’s a lot of dinner for under $10, which is why we’d plan on getting there close to 3 p.m. The store makes a limited number, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Part of a growing $9.99 plate trend
This is the first time the Kapolei store has run the special, according to the paper. It follows the discounted plates model already used at Don Quijote’s Kāheka and Pearl City stores. Kawahara said Marukai Hawaiʻi’s $9.99 Wednesday plates have been a hit, and so has the Friday plate special at Don Quijote Kāheka.
