A corner store with a deli in back

Owner Philip Yang told the paper he took over the store about three or four months ago and renovated what had been a more mom-and-pop convenience store. The goal, he said, was a convenience store with sandwiches. You’ll still find musubi and snacks up front; the deli counter is toward the back.

What to order

Sandwiches come in six-inch and footlong sizes. According to Aloha State Daily, the two customer favorites so far are:

  • The Italian ($12.49 six-inch, $19.99 footlong): ham, salami, pepperoni, banana peppers, sun-dried tomato spread, greens and provolone.
  • Queen club ($12.99 six-inch, $19.99 footlong): turkey, bacon, white American cheese, lettuce, tomato and guacamole spread.

Other options include turkey and provolone, classic ham and provolone, and pastrami with Swiss and Dijon. Yang credits a sun-dried tomato mayo and pickled red onions for giving the sandwiches extra kick.

Coming soon, per Yang: a chicken parm, a roast beef cheesesteak with caramelized onions and peppers, and soups such as Portuguese bean and clam chowder. He also said the full deli menu should eventually be available all day.

Cold cuts by the pound

The deli uses Boar’s Head meats, and you can buy meats and cheeses to take home. Prices reported by the paper include Black Forest ham at $12.99 a pound, oven-roasted turkey at $13.99, Genoa salami at $16.99, and pepper jack or Swiss at $12.99.

Save room for soft serve

There’s also a self-serve soft serve machine at 90 cents an ounce, with vanilla, ube or swirl. Yang said the store is still decorating, so expect the space to keep changing.
